Genesis Physicians Group provides strong support for physician participation in the public affairs arena. Whether through our own grassroots initiatives in Texas-or through the legislative contacts provided by our county, state and national medical associations, our voices are heard on such vital issues as:

  • Medical liability reform
  • Medicare reform
  • Patient safety
  • Antitrust relief
  • Regulatory relief
  • Funding for research and medical education
  • Health promotion/disease prevention
  • Prescription drug legislation

Texas Medical Association/TEXPAC

The Texas Medical Association (www.texmed.com), (1-800-880-1300) offers diverse opportunities for physician involvement in community service and issues involving legislation and political action.

Opportunities include:

  • TEXPAC, the political action committee of the Texas Medical Association. Contact Leslie Tate for more information. With more than 7,000 members, TEXPAC is the largest bipartisan political action committee in the state and ranks first in size among other state medical association PACs.
  • Where we stand - AMA Medicare physician payment cuts
Every year, America's physicians and their patients face the threat of cuts to Medicare physician payments. With 60 percent of physicians indicating they will either decrease or altogether stop seeing new Medicare patients if these cuts are allowed to occur, the American medical Association continues to work with Congress towards a permanent, long-term solution for the Medicare payment formula. With current government budget forecasts indicating a potential 10 percent cut by June 30, 2008, much work, but many opportunities, lie ahead.
